B-Liga Rumours Start to Circulate

With the Broome Soccer Association's B-Liga Outdoor Championship due to begin in just over four week's time, the BSA's own Mike Doyle takes a look at the latest rumours surrounding the teams.

______

Richard ‘the pulsator’ Brunger has lost the bulk of the pulsating Pearl Coast Pirates squad and is looking to a blend of experience and more experience this year to make himself look much quicker than he is. The Pirates have spent the majority of their money insuring Brunger’s lucky hat so it may be a period of consolidation for the club. However Brunger’s coaching and wheeling and dealing can not be underestimated – indeed he has been pulsating to say the least - winning the B Liga in his first attempt then finishing second in the Broomedesliga despite critics questioning the seriousness of the playing kit.

Three time bridesmaids – Hagan’s Heroes – appear determined to win their first ever B Liga trophy in 2010. After three consecutive runner’s up medals the Heroes will spend big in order to set fire to the afterburners this season.

New manager Allan Meikle has moved quickly to secure the signature of Broomedesliga star and new biggest name in Broome Soccer, Dawie Van Rensburg. The undisclosed sum is reported to be a B Liga record and Meikle has hinted there is more big name signings to come including a member of the English World Cup Squad and a man with a vuvuzela.

The playing future of Broome City’s entire team has been thrown into doubt. Many of the players have gone into hiding and are not speaking to the media. The pressures of the LNG gas hub, Broome North, and cost of living has forced Broome City to seriously consider their future. Stalwart and club hard man Jon Galichan sparked controversy by playing under PCC Brunger during the Broomedesliga and his exit could turn on the floodgates. Rumours of a Colombian take over from Dorian Facundo are building, but just who will take the field for the men in navy remains to be seen.

NDFC have kept very quiet over the off season. Perineal winners of everything the side will again look to dominate, but rumours of a change of name are rife. Ninety - five time championship winner JJ Murray has been sent to South Africa to scour some tournament currently happening for talent. The Broome Police Professional English Footballer Exchange (BPPEFE) has seen the side strengthened considerably despite many thinking this was impossible. The contract and indeed playing future of BSA legend Jimmy Asimacopoulos continues to be a topic of hot debate, but with names like Messi, Ronaldo, Fallon and Dos Santos bandied about NDFC will be tough to beat, regardless of his signature.

Racing Guantanmo has been banned from the transfer market for irregularities.

IN OTHER NEWS

BSA el president Mike Doyle is said to be furious with the now former Socceroos manager Pim Verbeek. Doyle is set for meetings with FFA after no B Liga players were included in the world cup squad despite the league enjoying its best ever season in 2010.

Juniors Helpers Required

The Broome Soccer Association is set for a big year this year with regards to our junior program. With interest expected to peak after the World Cup, we are painfully aware that we are underequipped in terms of people-power to deal with this.

Our juniors program is set to start on Wednesday 21st July at 3:30pm and continue for approximately 8-9 weeks. The sessions will run for approximately one hour.

We are putting out a call to all interested parents who would like to put up their hand to volunteer an hour or so of their time each week to help with the following tasks:

1. Someone to stay with the trailer and act to : assist with first aid if required ; direct kids / parents with queries ; help locate gear from trailer as required by age group leaders etc

2. A reserve or two who can help fill in when coaches are away.

3. Grant Applications - look for opportunities for sponsorship to help subsidise cost (juniors ran at a considerable loss for the Association in 2010)

4. Training of Coaches

6. Preparation - pumping up of junior balls / checking whether "goals" are still usable (or whether we just use cones)

7. Pick up of equipment / trailer each week

8. Set up different junior areas from 3.30pm

9. Help pack up

10. Washing bibs

As you can see, there are several jobs which the existing committee cannot realistically complete by themselves. If we cannot get enough volunteers, we may have to run the juniors program in a smaller capacity, or possibly not at all.

If you would like to volunteer and help us out, please contact Tim Gray at tim.gray1@det.wa.edu.au
